We may have been knocked out in the semis. We may have had to listen to our friends tell us earnestly that “it couldn’t go any other way”. We may have had to pretend that we know about football for many, many weeks. We may have seen our fathers cry for the very first time. We may have consumed viral video after viral video all conveying one simple statement: It’s coming home. We might not have a clue how to spend our free time now.
But none of it really matters in the end because, despite an amazing campaign, we were knocked out. We weren’t destined for the final this time. This time. But all is not lost, reader, because: this England squad clearly have a shining future ahead and it occurred to us this week that if there was a world cup for hilarious online videos, no other country could touch us. Don’t believe it? Check out this treasure trove of English wit, it tells our World Cup 2018 story through a shower of ridiculous videos.
