Ramadan Gains: Mohammed Yahya
It’s that wonderful time of year again where we work on our gains and no, we don’t mean gym gains, we’re talking about the spiritual kind.
The month of Ramadan is here and our Ummahsonic fam along with the rest of the Ummah will be fasting from dawn till dusk.
During this time, Muslims are reminded to be generous and to increase their charitable activities during Ramadan. Naturally, as a result, we end up giving even more to charity during Ramadan.
This month we want to shout out some amazing individuals who have been giving back to their communities, encompassing the true spirit of the holy month.
For our first Ramadan shout out, we want to bring your attention to Mohammed Yahya. There’s a reason Mohammed might look familiar to some of you and that’s because we previously featured him in our Youtube Ummahsonic Talks series.
Mohammed is a London based hip-hop artist who uses music, poetry, and spoken word to promote peace and interfaith dialogue between Muslims and Jews. He uses hip-hop to bring youths from both religions together to learn about each other’s faiths.
Mohammed has done a lot of work with young people, running various educational workshops in schools, youth centres, prisons and synagogues.
The workshops Mohammed runs, cover a wide variety of subjects, tackling head on topics such as teenage pregnancy and comparative religion.
His approach of using music to educate is the perfect balance that allows young people to get in touch with their creativity and express themselves in a platform where they don’t feel judged.
Make no mistake, Mohammed’s humanitarian work is not limited to the UK. From organising events and fundraisers for campaigns in places like Ghana and Mozambique, Mohamed uses his platform to truly make a difference.
Make sure you check out Mohammed on the gram to keep with his amazing work.
