All things Muslim - incredible stories & positive vibes

On Fleek This Week: Omar Regan

This week’s guest on the podcast and our ‘On Fleek This week’ is Omar Regan. A stand-up comedian, actor and former rapper, Omar has kicked up a storm in Hollywood.

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, this multi talent started writing songs at the age of nine and before long had formed a group with his brother called Servants of Allah (S.O.A.). Together they performed all over America and even opened shows for Wu-Tang Clan, Method Man and Eminem.

What makes Omar different is his strong connection to his faith and his deep spirituality. His mother converted to Islam when he was 5 years old and he has been devoted to his religion ever since. He has incorporated Islam in every aspect of his life and career that he even came up with the term Halalywood

If you haven’t heard about Halalywood before, it is Omar’s production project through which he dreams of presenting films about Muslims to the world. Defying Hollywood stereotypes, Omar hopes that the idea of Halalywood would show that Muslims believe in harmony with all religions that share the same message of love, respect, honor and dignity for everyone.

Omar has been involved in so many cool projects that we lose count! In 2001, he was the body double for Chris Tucker in ‘Rush Hour 2’, he also took part in E!’s reality series, ‘Fight for Fame’ and won a theatrical contract. He has since acted in a number of comedy films like ‘Internet Dating’ and ‘Life is Hot in Cracktown’. He regularly performs stand-up comedy at events across the world and he is also a motivational speaker, visiting schools and conducting counselling workshops.

Listen to Omar talk about all of this and more on our podcast tomorrow and let us know on Facebook what you think! Until then…
