Christmas is a time for love and giving, no matter what your religion is. And British Muslims have been showing their love and generosity across the country to those who need it the most, because no matter what your faith is, our common humanity is what unites us.
During the time we live in, when divisions are threatening our peaceful way of life, it is important for us to show the positive sides to life as a British Muslim; to be the leaders in bringing together different groups and promote the British values of tolerance and kindness.
As charity forms one of the five pillars of Islam, and with Christmas approaching, we’ve seen some inspiring examples of the Muslim community giving back and spreading the love.
One recent example has really stood out to us at Ummahsonic towers; a restaurant in Sidcup has put a sign on its window advertising a free three-course Christmas meal for the elderly and homeless on Christmas day. Their stated mission is to ensure that “no one eats alone”. This Muslim-owned restaurant has also asked locals to spread the word on social media and for anyone who might be alone on 25 December to join them.
Unsurprisingly, the post broke the internet and has gone viral, with people across the country praising the generosity, kindness and selflessness of the gesture by Muslim staff and owners. Many have also said that it is another testament to the community spirit and values that Muslims carry.
Do you know of any other projects Muslims are taking part in this Christmas? Are you doing anything special? Let us know!
