All things Muslim - incredible stories & positive vibes

MOOSLEEMARGH’s ‘Things We Should Ban Instead of the Veil’ Cartoon is the Best

A long time ago, on a website far, far away (actually just this website [Ummahsonic]), there was a feature about an artist who went by the name MOOSLEEMARGH.

She was a 23-year-old Londoner whose illustrations favoured bold, colourful depictions of Muslim women framed against punchy, ever-so-slightly subversive slogans. Observe:

Several months later, all of these facts are still true. The artist still goes by MOOSLEEMARGH and she’s still a Londoner who favours bold prints. She may even still be 23. Who knows? She could’ve just celebrated her birthday when we profiled her 11 months ago.

Since we first wrote about MOOSLEEMARGH, we’ve been keeping track of the work she’s been posting on Instagram. A few months back, she uploaded a brilliant series titled ‘Things We Should Ban Instead of the Veil’.

Because we had a few other commitments at the time, we put it on the back burner. But now – RIGHT NOW –  we’re going to share it with you, in all its short-photo-gallery-on-Instagram glory (meaning don’t forget to scroll through).

As you can see, ‘Things We Should Ban Instead of the Veil’ includes stuff like cigarettes, early morning alarms and raisin cookies (tbh we’re not sure about that. Raisin cookies can be delicious).

As colourful and joyous and cartoonish as these images are, we’re always fond of fixing a greater meaning to the art we feature on Ummahsonic.

So along with being a fine example of MOOSLEEMARGH’s talents as an artist, ‘Things We Should Ban Instead of the Veil’ does an excellent job of sending up the absurdity of proposed veil bans.

And we’re fans of anything that accomplishes this.

Don’t forget to follow MOOSLEEMARGH on Instagram.
