Halal Holiday Hackers #6 Muzza Abroad
Some of the best people you’ll ever hang out with will usually share a few similar traits. We won’t attempt to list all of them, but if a person makes you want to be around them on the regs there’s a high chance that they’re extremely fun and down to do anything (well, anything fun).
Muzza Abroad, otherwise known as Aqeel Karim, looks like he’s one of these people. We’ve just spent the past hour looking through his Instagram for the sixth entry in the Halal Holiday Hackers series and, while we hate to be the most beg blog you’ll read today, we’ve really got to ask Aqeel something: Bro, will you be our friend?
The photographs charting your trips around the globe look really fun. You look like you’re having so much fun. You crease like you’ve just heard the funniest joke ever. We want that kind of fun. If you think we’re being a bit extra, just take a look at some of his snaps on @muzzaabroad.
Case in point: infectious mega grin at the Mayan ruins of Chichén-Itzá in Mexico:
Example number two: impromptu rendition of Despacito with a couple of street musicians in Cuba which, against our better judgement, kind of makes us like Despacito again.
Case study 3.0: having a blast in some sort of parachute water skimming rig thing. We don’t really know what’s going on here, but we want to give it a try:
We even vibe with the ever-so-slightly corny caption he’s included with the above pic:
‘One of the beautiful things about travelling is to open up your mind…To different people, conversations, interest, hobbies, activities, places, food, languages, feelings, thoughts and most importantly, to change! How is anyone expected to improve and better themselves, if they are not ready to make and accept that change.’
When anyone is this enthusiastic about anything, it’s impossible not to share their feelings.
We want to finish by highlighting a photo Aqeel posted with a caption that cause us to do a minor double take. It features our man, as gassed as ever, lei’d up with his travel companion in Central America, Jamie.
Jamie is Jewish. Aqeel is Muslim – two facts he’s keen to point out in light of their decision to explore an unfamiliar land together.
Now, Aqeel’s message might be a little on the nose and his terminology a few power naps short of #woke, but his overall message rings true:
‘I’m super excited for these upcoming weeks, and I can’t wait to share my experiences as a Muslim, travelling with a Jew. I’m not aiming for a Nobel Peace Prize, but I definitely want you all [to] be aware that it is possible for us to get along, coexist, tolerate and embrace one another.’
If we were all as permanently psyched and engaging as Aqeel, we’re sure coexisting, tolerance and the occasional embrace wouldn’t be much of an issue for anyone.
