Great British Bake Off – We Love Nadiya!

We’ve whacked the oven on, whisked the mixture, piped the icing and even tried to assemble those little edible flowers – but to be honest, we are terrible at baking. The mixture burns, the icing is too runny, and above all, we get soggy bottoms. Which is why we leave it to the experts, and are mesmerised by The Great British Bake Off. Ten million people are watching the current series and taking to social media to talk about every bread and biscuit, as well as one very expressive contestant in particular. Step forward Nadiya Jamir Hussain, and your truly magnificent faces…

Nadiya’s faces are so legendary that there are web articles dedicated to them, just like this one. Confusion, anger, bewilderment, excitement and upset – right through to her unbridled joy (and surprise) at being named star baker during “free from” week – it keeps us much more entertained than the judges attempts at comedy or anything coming out of the ovens. But that is of course the main reason for the show, and luckily, this girl has a knack of coming up with some pretty decent baking too.

So can Nadiya go all the way? Well, why not? At the start of the competition, Mary and Paul highlighted her lack of technical skills, yet she’s won a technical challenge recently. Other bakers have come up with some borderline crazy creations when it comes to toppings, yet everyone remembers Nadiya’s can of pop. We are backing her, but not just for her faces. And not just for her soda pop cakes, or gluten free pitta. We are backing Nadiya because her journey makes us laugh; some of her experiences make us want to cry with her; but ultimately, because we think Nadiya and her army of facial expressions is pretty cool.
