Hit Follow on Azhar Nasser, the Funniest Sheikh on Twitter
It’s not often you learn about a Sheikh who compliments his scholarly knowledge of Islam with an absolutely fire Twitter game, but here we are. Sheikh Azhar Nasser, who is based in Toronto, Canada, uses the online platform to relay the bizarre and occasionally cheeky ways people look to benefit from his wisdom.
Before we rattle off a few of his best tweets, let’s take a look at his impressive background. Sheikh Azhar Nasser was born and raised in Michigan. After completing a degree in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Michigan, he pursued his religious studies at the Hawza of Najaf under the tutelage of Grand Ayatollah Sistani and Grand Ayatollah Hakim.
Since then, he was dedicated his time to studying the Qu’ran and imparting his understanding of it onto others. Yet as his Twitter shows, some curious minds aren’t exactly asking the most important questions or tackling the biggest issues.
There are the people who misattribute quotes:
Sheikh, what was that one Hadith about how only God can judge us?
That’s not a Hadith. That’s Tupac

And of course there are the candy pedants:
Sheikh, don’t eat those gummy bears, they have gelatin in them. I called and checked.
You know there is a version of you everywhere I go
— Shaykh Azhar Nasser (@ShaykhAzhar) November 7, 2017
Not to mention the singletons who need to give themselves a team talk:
Sheikh, can you help me get married?
Inshallah, I just need you to change who you are as a person.

Game of Thrones fans even manage to annoy their local Sheikh:
Sheikh, are you enjoying “Game of Thrones” …if you know what I mean…?
I don’t know what you mean and please stop winking at me.
— Shaykh Azhar Nasser (@ShaykhAzhar) November 16, 2017
There are also the folks who don’t know how relatively easy they have it:
Sheikh, my mom is always on my back. She never lets me out of the house past 10pm. Its so infuriating.
Tell me more about your heart-wrenching tribulation.
— Shaykh Azhar Nasser (@ShaykhAzhar) November 12, 2017
As well as the ‘New number. Who this?’ crowd:
Sheikh, is it haram to celebrate halloween?
First of all, who gave you my number.
— Shaykh Azhar Nasser (@ShaykhAzhar) November 1, 2017
Unless you’re suffering from some severely paper-thin skin, you can tell that there’s really no malice behind the Sheikh’s tweets. He’s simply sending up our collective tendency to not always think before we begin to blabber. We’re sure, like any human being, he’s been guilty of this, too.
Plus, in between the laughs, he posts some seriously sensible truths, such as:
Don’t ever equate depression with weak faith. Being depressed doesn’t mean you’ve drifted away from God, it means you’re human.

A wise man once said nothing. Reduce your speech for Allah gave you two ears and only one tongue.#wisdom
