Ieat Because You Eat Halal

Ever get to the supermarket for a quick ready meal and find no Halal options other than a dry cheese and onion pasty? Do you spend your days at uni dreaming of mum’s delicious food, trying to find a quick and easy supermarket equivalent and end up with an unappetising pasta bake that you’d rather not eat?

Well, you’re not alone. For us Muslims, Halal food choices in supermarket aisles have been quite limited. Enter Shazia Saleem, the entrepreneur who has come up with the perfect solution for our Halal microwave meal woes.

After finding it difficult to find delicious meals at uni, while watching her non-Muslim friends pick up delicious pizzas, lasagnes and pies on their collective weekly shop, Shazia decided to do something about it.

“It was really frustrating, and I used to whinge a lot that I was missing out. I thought, why wasn’t anyone making halal ready meals, other than the odd curry?”

Fed up with vegetarian options, she thought up of Ieat Foods, a food brand that offers delicious ready meal options that are healthy and Halal. The best part? It is all available at supermarkets all over the UK, so no excuses on your next shop!

With meals such as chicken pies, pizzas and steak bakes, there is so much to choose from, and knowing that they are sourced and cooked according to the Islamic tradition should put your mind at ease.

Shazia jokes that she started her Halal food company simply because she was hungry!

But her success didn’t come overnight. It took a lot of dedication and hard work, as Shazia explains, “While moonlighting on other things, I spent eight years putting together all the pieces of the jigsaw that needed to be in place before I launched Ieat.”

All that travelling around researching and sourcing the best and most ethical ingredients obviously paid off!

But the 31-year-old entrepreneur has an even bigger message for everyone: go out and achieve your dreams all whilst celebrating who you are and your culture as a British Muslim. We certainly feel inspired!
